The internal voice of God has the ability to position us where God wants us to be.
God does not just speak to His prophets; He speaks to all of us.
“If you will fear the LORD and serve Him, and listen to His voice and not rebel against the command of the LORD, then both you and also the king who reigns over you will follow the LORD your God. If you will not listen to the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the command of the LORD, then the hand of the LORD will be against you, as it was against your fathers…Only fear the LORD and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you. But if you still do wickedly, both you and your king will be swept away.” 1 Samuel 12:14-15, 24-25
Both Saul and Jonathon were standing in the presence of the prophet Samuel when he addressed Israel and spoke the word of the LORD to them, but Jonathon was the one who heeded it; he heard the LORD.
Are we listening to what the Lord is speaking to us and to our hearts?
Don’t let the cares of this world drown out the voice of God in our hearts.
The only way a person can change is through the word of God. He is the only one who has the power to change humanity.
Saul lost sight of the word of God; he did not heed what God had spoken.
If Saul had obeyed the LORD then the kingdom would have been passed to Jonathon.
Jonathon was in the presence of Saul and Samuel when Samuel rebuked Saul and told him that God was taking away the kingdom from him, which meant it would be taken away from Jonathon as well. But Jonathon heard the Lord and changed the agenda of his own heart to align it with the agenda of God.
Blessing is on the other side of obedience.
“Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry.” 1 Samuel 15:22-23
God is looking for a heart of obedience, for people who hear and heed His word.
